Advances in LED Outdoor Lighting
LED (light-emitting diodes) bulbs have been used readily over the years in both commercial and residential settings. Until a few years ago, LED lights weren’t suitable for outdoor lighting applications because their color rendering and directional capabilities were poor. Here at Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Kansas City, we stay in tune with not only the rising demands of our market but also the vast advances in LED outdoor lighting.
Although plenty of older-technology LED lights are still sold today, new, technologically advanced LED’s are available–and they solve all the performance problems of the older model LED lights. LED lights from Outdoor Lighting Perspectives are more flexible than all competing models on the market and will last longer. The patent-pending technology separates the electronics from the light source, reducing the heat the LED light source is subjected to.
An article published in The Kansas City Star* showcases how the advances in LED lighting make it the perfect solution to exterior illuminations. Jill Reitz writes about a Kansas City resident who recently made the switch from halogen bulbs to LED bulbs:
Craig Marshall of Kansas City switched over from halogens to all LEDs last fall when he added more lights to his backyard oasis. While he was initially hesitant that the color of the LEDs would fail in comparison to his halogens, John Bruce, owner of Outdoor Lighting Perspectives in Kansas City, showed him how far the color tones of outdoor LEDs have come in recent years.
“I like to tell people that a year ago, LED lights were like first-graders, but with all of the advancements, they are now fourth-graders in terms of color tone,” Bruce says. “In the home, the advancements in color tone have not been the same, but in the outdoor world, there is no real difference anymore.”
Marshall installed new LEDs and converted old halogen lights throughout his backyard, including 20 floodlights and 12 path lights.
“They look perfect,” he says. “When lit up the whole backyard is more appealing and warm. The neighbors love to come over and sit and talk.”
The green benefits of LEDs are a driving force in their gaining popularity. Bruce says almost all of his customers now choose LEDs for their patios and gardens. They use 80 percent less energy, and the longevity of the lamp is significantly more.
