Every so often, I dedicate some time to do a “passion post”, where I write about a community issue (or organization) that I believe in and care deeply about. This is one of those blogs.
As you all know, the holidays are right around the corner. While the holidays remind me of all that I have to be thankful for, they also remind me that not everyone enjoys the same kind of blessings that I have. Sadly, many people spend the holidays without a family to celebrate with. I think it is tragic that some loving couples are unable to experience the blessing of children while some children do not have the blessing of being part of a loving family. I also believe that adoption offers a beautiful solution to this heartbreaking problem.
However, the process and cost of adoption can be intimidating to many families who are interested in adopting a child. This is why we support a local adoption ministry called “Reaching Hands”. Reaching Hands is a local grassroots ministry that seeks to be a full service adoption resource for the CSRA community. They help answer questions about adoption, connect families with quality adoption resources, and even provide financial assistance to qualified families. Over the past five years, Reaching Hands has provided needed assistance through ‘adoption grants’ for 32 families and 51 children from 9 countries!
The Bullingtons with Their Adopted Son, DavisThis important ministry is growing rapidly and we present them to you as a model organization that is making a major impact on our CSRA community. If you are looking for a place to send a charitable donation, or simply have questions about the adoption process/ministry, please check out the Reaching Hands website, this great feature article from Augusta Chronicle, or contact David Bullington at (706) 399-1330.
Better still, you can come to the Reaching Hands Adoption Celebration and Benefit Auction on Thursday, November 6th from 6:00-9:00pm at Warren Baptist Church. This will is an exciting evening dedicated to celebrating adoptive families and raising funds to support Reaching Hands. We are honored to donate some of our lights for the auction, and look forward o eating some of the delicious appetizers and desserts that will be provided by several wonderful area restaurants. Tickets are only $10.
Can’t make it on Thursday night? No problem! You can still contribute. This year, the silent auction will begin online before the night of the event. Please join with us in supporting this important ministry.
